The Bruce family has lived in the area since the 14th century.The present house was built in 1702.

The 5th Earl of Elgin was a founding member of Royal and Ancient Golf Club in St Andrews

JACOBITE
In 1745 Lady Bruce helped dispossessed Jacobite families, by giving them safe place to live on the estate.

THE CARNEGIES                      Unable to pay rental arrears the Carnegies were evicted from the estate in 1826.
